805 million people in the world go to bed hunrgy every single night. But while one in nine don’t have enough to eat, it need not be this way. The world produces more than enough food for everyone; nobody on earth should live with the threat of imminent starvation.
This is why One Family is determined to help. Food is plentiful, and it is there for sharing.
Sadly, endemic poverty, famine and war in developing countries mean the facts can’t be ignored: 10,000 children die of malnutrition and hunger-related illness every day, while 5.5 million youngsters are malnourished in East Africa alone. Of these, nearly a million face death. Elsewhere, famine has been declared in South Sudan — the first time this has occurredanywhere for six years. Food shortages in Somalia, Yemen, Syria, and Iraq are also at critical levels.
All of these people desperately need food. Food which already exists – in fields, farms and factories right across the world.
The benefit of feeding the hungry extends far beyond physical reward, with investment in child nutrition offering exceptionally high returns in international development. Early years’nourishment helps a child’s body and brain develop, dramatically improving their health and educational prospects. Overall, proper nutrition gives the young a real chance of a successful life. To this end, One Family is partnering with organisations that are as committed to ending hunger as we are.
Together we can feed our family, today and for a lifetime.
